Christopher Lindsey

Mr Lindsey specialist online maths tutor and software engineer

I am Mr Lindsey from MathsTutor UK. I am a specialist online maths tutor for A level Maths, A level Further Maths and GCSE . I also develop iOS apps in Swift and VSTO based information systems in C#. I have a 1st class BA (Hons) degree in Mathematics from the Open University and a 1st class BSc (Joints Hons) degree in Computer Science and Economics from the University of East Anglia. I believe that learning is a lifelong endeavour and am also currently enrolled with the Open University studying for a BSc in Physics.

Enthusiastic and keen to inspire

I am keen to pass my enthusiasm for Mathematics onto all my students as Mathematics is so much more than its subject matter. Let’s develop your curiosity, your ability to solve problems, your clarity of thought, your strategic thinking. After all “Millions saw the apple fall, but Newton asked why”! (Bernard Baruch, American financier, philanthropist and statesman).

Linking mathematics and information technology

IT is a mathematical discipline and software development is a key skill that all the best modern scientists look to master as an essential tool to support their scientific work. For this reason many university science courses now include programming modules as mandatory components in their curriculum. As a result, I look to ensure that all my students feel comfortable using IT and are able to leverage available technology to enhance their learning.

Industry experience

This is my second career after 30 years as an IT professional including experience in the bookmaking industry, banking and public sectors. I also enjoy volunteering with charities and NPOs. From 1981, I spent 5 years as a management consultant with Arthur Andersen & Co followed by 6 years as an IT Manager with Swiss Bank Corporation. Then, from 1992, I spent 20 years with Ladbrokes, including 10 years as IT Director of their Retail Division. I worked freelance from 2012 until I retired in 2014 to pursue areas of personal interest including tutoring mathematics, personal software engineering projects,  further study and voluntary work.

Voluntary work

My voluntary experience includes 3 years with the Whitechapel Mission from 2012 to 2015 working in their life-skills department to help their homeless clients improve their situation. I was a director with Essex Savers net Credit Union from 2013 to 2016 and managed their Brentwood service point to help reduce financial exclusion. I was a Trustee with The Renewal Programme in Newham, East London from January 2016 to December 2020 and worked with Volunteering Matters in Southend directly supporting families in crisis from March 2017 to March 2019 . I started tutoring mathematics on-line in 2018 and worked with the Access Project as a volunteer Maths tutor from July 2019 to August 2024 helping ambitious students gain access to the best universities.

Personal aside

I am married to Anne and we have two adult daughters who both live in London. I enjoy playing racket sports including padel tennis, and table tennis as well as social games such as chess and bridge. I also enjoy communal singing and sing both tenor and bass with the Ongar Singers. With a sound academic background and extensive industry experience, I can link the academic discipline with its real world application and help you get the qualifications you need.
